UPDATE - Night Work on 68th Ave. NE
On Monday, May 19 crews will begin night work to install a new gas line on 68th Ave. NE between SR 522 and NE 181st St. Crews will are running a new 4” main along 68th Ave. NE. that will tie into an existing main on SR 522. Work is being done at night to avoid causing significant traffic impacts on this busy stretch of road.

Crews will be we working Monday through Thursday nights from 7 pm to 5 am. Traffic control will be in place and flaggers will be on site to help guide traffic through the construction zone.

80th Ave. NE Re-opened
Crews have finished paving and striping 80th Ave. NE and have re-opened the roadway. Sidewalks have also been installed and are open to pedestrians. Crews will return to landscape the area at a later time.

SR 522 Night Work
Night work on the SR 522 joint utilty trench between 77th Ct. NE and 80th Ave. NE will no longer begin on May 5. Instead, crews will coordinate this work to occur after traffic on the Swamp Creek Bridge has been shifted from the north bridge deck to the newly built south side. This traffic shift will occur so that crews can then demolish and replace the north bridge deck. The traffic shift is currently scheduled to be implemented early this summer.

SR 522 Sidewalks
Curb and gutter installation is almost complete along the north side of SR 522 between 73rd Ave. NE and Starbucks. Crews are now constructing sidewalks. They are beginning at 73rd Ave. NE and will be work their way east.

Burke-Gilman Trail Underpass at 68th Ave. NE Re-opens
On Monday, April 21 the Burke-Gilman Trail Underpass at 68th Ave. NE re-opened to the public. The trail's detour onto NE 175th St. from 68th Ave. NE to 83rd Pl. NE will remain in place until the trail is graded and re-paved. Other sections of the trail are scheduled to re-open later this Spring.

SR 522 Night Work
On Monday, May 5 crews will begin stormwater work on the south side of SR 522 from 80th Ave. NE to just east of 83rd Pl. NE. Crews will be grading and installing both catch basins and stormwater crossings. These initial crossings will extend approximately half way across SR 522 and are part of a larger stormwater system to collect runoff from SR 522.

Crews will be closing the southernmost eastbound lane of SR 522 so that they can complete this work. This traffic shift maintains two westbound lanes but will limit eastbound traffic to one lane. This work will be done overnight and will last for approximately two weeks.

Night work hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 pm to 5 am.

Utility Work on 73rd Ave. NE
During the weeks of April 28 and May 5 crews will be doing utility work on 73rd Ave. NE between NE 175th St. and SR 522. Crews will be removing pavement, laying utilities and re-paveing. These utilities will be used to operate the tunnel underpass’ lights and sump pump, and will also tie into the traffic signal at the intersection of 73rd Ave. NE and SR 522.

During this work there may be alternating one-way traffic on 73rd Ave. NE. Traffic control will be in place from 9 am to 3 pm and flaggers will be on site to guide traffic through the construction zone.

Gas Main Work
On Monday, April 14 crews began gas line work between NE 181st St. and SR 522 along both 67th Ave NE and 68th Ave NE. This work is expected to last for approximately five weeks.

Crews are retiring a pressure reducing station at the southwest corner of NE 181st St. and 68th Ave. NE and constructing a new one in the grass strip just to the south of City Hall on NE 181st St. New gas mains are then being installed along both 67th Ave. NE and 68th Ave. NE between NE 181st St. and SR 522. A new 8” main will run along 67th Ave. NE while a 4” main will run along 68th Ave. NE. These new gas mains will tie into an existing main on SR 522.

Work hours on weekdays are from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, though some work may begin at 7:00 AM if traffic allows. Crews will begin by working days, though some night work is also a possibility. Night work hours would be from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM.

Nearby businesses on NE 181st St. NE, 67th Ave. NE and 68th Ave. NE will remain open during construction.

Detour at SR 522 and 80th Ave. NE
To complete the bridge replacement work safely and in a timely manner, a detour at 80th Ave. NE was implemented on August 2. The detour limits access to 80th Ave. NE for vehicles traveling east on SR 522. Drivers should instead turn north onto 73rd Ave. NE and then east on NE 192nd St. A U-turn route has also been provided at the signal at 83rd Pl. NE for vehicles that may have missed the 73rd Ave. NE detour. Signage is posted to alert drivers.

Burke-Gilman Trail Detour - Parking Restricted on NE 175th
The Burke-Gilman Trail is currently closed from 68th Ave. NE to 83rd Pl. NE. Trail users are being rerouted at 68th Ave. NE to 175th St., and can rejoin the trail at 83rd Pl. NE. The detour will be in place while crews work on the Burke-Gilman Trail’s 73rd Ave. NE underpass.

Parking has been restricted along both the north and south side of NE 175th St. from 73rd Ave. NE to 83rd Pl. NE. Between 68th Ave. NE and 73rd Ave. NE parking will be prohibited along the north side of NE 175th St. but will be allowed in designated areas on the south side of the street. The Kenmore Police Department is monitoring the area and will issue tickets and tow cars that continue to park in restricted areas.

Construction Hours and Business Access
Daytime construction runs weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. If necessary, work will continue on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m. Occasionally construction may continue as late as 7:00 p.m. Night hours will be from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Throughout construction the project team is committed to keeping businesses accessible. “Businesses open during construction” signs are currently being placed near businesses along SR 522 where work is taking place.
