City of Kenmore SR 522 Improvement Project

Project Overview
The City of Kenmore is completing several improvements to SR 522 to increase safety, improve transit reliability, and ease congestion. Improvements include adding new traffic signals and sidewalks, widening SR 522 for Business Access and Transit lanes, replacing the Swamp Creek Bridge, and more. Construction Updates
Activation of New Traffic Signal & Removal of Poles
The new traffic signal at 68th Ave NE and NE 181st St has been activated. The intersection was previously a controlled four-way stop. The new traffic signal provides convenient and safe vehicle and pedestrian travel through this area. Please use caution when driving through the intersection. In addition, poles have been removed on the east side of 68th Ave NE between NE Bothell Way and NE 181st St. During the next several weeks the remaining wood poles in the project area will be removed and the Contractor will complete all sidewalk improvements.

The new traffic signal at NE 181st St and 73rd Ave NE has been activated. The intersection was previously a controlled two-way stop. The new traffic signal provides convenient and safe vehicle and pedestrian travel through this area and improves access to the park and ride. Coordination with the Northshore Fire Department operations is a special feature of the traffic signal. Please use caution when driving through the intersection.

Utility Work- Central Segment
Various utility companies are working throughout the corridor to convert overhead utility wires to underground over the next month. This work may require temporary closures of the BAT lanes on SR 522, or lane shifts on side streets. Utility work will be completed during daytime hours.

Landscaping and Property Restoration – Central Segment
Miscellaneous improvements are occurring throughout the central segment. Crews are finishing up landscaping and continuing private property restorations over the next several weeks.

Construction Hours and Business Access
Daytime construction runs weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. If necessary, work will continue on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m. Occasionally construction may continue as late as 7:00 p.m. Night hours will be from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Throughout construction the project team is committed to keeping businesses accessible.
